At Quantum Design Oxford we design, supply and support market-leading research tools that enable quantum technologies, nanotechnology research, advanced materials, and nanodevice development in the physical sciences.
Our tools support research to the atomic scale through creation of high performance, cryogen free, low temperature, and magnetic environments. This is based upon our core technologies in low and ultra-low temperatures, high magnetic fields, and system integration, with increasing levels of experimental and measurement readiness.
The company was founded in 1959 as the first commercial spin-out from Oxford University and has provided technological innovation for more than 60 years.
Here at Quantum Design Oxford, we are actively putting plans in place to minimise the environmental footprint of our products and services, from monitoring power usage to recycling products. We are committed to protecting the planet the best we can and support our customers in achieving their objectives in the most sustainable way possible. We currently offer return to factory recycling in the UK for our products for free with the option available for other markets at a minimal cost.
While our Proteox platform allows each component to be individually addressed, we are exploring how best to monitor power usage. We are also actively collaborating on projects to make large magnets more energy efficient. Given our roots in magnets for NMR, our magnets are already some of the most efficient in the world.
As part of our commitment, working with other stakeholders in the industry is critical and this is why we've developed the Quantum Technology | Our Sustainable Future project working closely with Quantum Daily to ignite the debate.
The summer of 2021 was marked by the release of Quantum Technology | Our Sustainable Future, a unique documentary Oxford Instruments NanoScience developed in partnership with Quantum Insider.
With everything that has happened in the past year, sustainability continues to be an important thing for the industry.
Here at Oxford, we have provided work experience opportunities for students in Oxfordshire and the neighbouring counties for many years, which have always proven to be popular.
In 2016, we launched the Discovery Work Experience Programme (DWEP). The purpose of the programme is to provide valuable insight into Oxford and to give students an opportunity to find out what it is like to work in industry via a series of work-based learning activities, and explore available options for future careers.
We hold regular workshops at universities and colleges to attract young talent to join us as apprentices and trainees. As an apprentice or trainee, you will work with people who are leaders in their fields and get to work with products that are exciting and innovative. More importantly, you will gain experience and develop skills that will contribute towards a stimulating and fulfilling career. A detailed programme guide is available upon request.
